Songs & Updates for Saturday, January 23, 2016

This Saturday is the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time.
We were a bit thin on musicians last week, but didn't run into any major issues. Thanks to everyone who was able to be there!

Last Thursday, I attended the Lent Planning Meeting on behalf of our group. A couple of music highlights: First, I confirmed that we'll be switching to Mass of Remembrance at the beginning of Lent.

Second, all the Choirs will be using a common Gathering song, a medley of 'Whatsoever You Do' and 'Hold Us in Your Mercy'. We'll use the appropriate verses each week, and will need to figure out some way to transition between the two pieces.

Third, it was suggested that the Choirs use Hispanic-sounding pieces for the Third Week of Lent, since our theme that week will revolve around 'Welcoming the Stranger'.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled for this evening (1/20) to finalize a few details.

I've already mentioned this to several of you, but please welcome Kristen to our group! She's a fairly new member of the Parish and has been filling in for Joanne on piano at the 11 AM Mass. Kristen will be working with us starting this Saturday!

Deacon Jack has asked that all the Choirs use 'We Are Many Parts' this week since it fits nicely with the second reading. I have it programmed for Offertory once again. If you have a chance to look at the harmonies, it would be great to add more of those in. The same goes for 'Bread for the World'.

Just a reminder that we have a new Psalm coming on on 01/30, GC #71, 'I Will Sing'. Please look this over if you haven't already -- we may not have a chance to rehearse it in advance. If you'd be interested in cantoring, please let me know.

Finally, since there's a snowstorm expected to hit Friday afternoon into Saturday, there's a possibility that I may not be able to make Mass. If that ends up being the case, I'll put out an email. Also, no practice after Mass just to be safe.
