Songs & Updates for Saturday, July 30, 2016

This Saturday is the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Mass last week was overall pretty solid and 'Standin' in the Need of Prayer' was quite a bit of fun to sing. Thanks to everyone who was able to be there!

The music for August has been sent to the Office for approval. I've gotten a request to focus a bit more on tunes out of Spirit & Song -- with that in mind, I've tried to balance each week's program with songs from both books, while also adding variety. You may notice a few pieces that I've 'borrowed' from the Sunday Masses -- these could make for fun additions to our repertoire. A Baptism is also on the board for 8/6, so I've made the appropriate changes to that week's program.

For 'Canticle of the Turning', I'd like to stick with a slightly slower tempo (see below). Otherwise, as we've discovered, the verses can become a bit difficult to manage.

For 'If Today', I'd love to use the simple voice parts on the refrain (also below). If you're familiar with these, please look them over before Saturday. Jim, would you willing to cantor?

This will be our last week of doing 'Taste and See' as our Communion hymn. I know folks are probably getting tired of doing this, but it really has come a long way since the beginning of the month. The verses have especially come together nicely after all the issues we ran into initially with nailing down the rhythms. Thanks for bearing with me on this!

Going in a completely different direction, I'd like to resurrect 'We Are One Body' as our Communion song for August. We last dabbled with this back in 2014 (around the same time I took over running the group from Jonathan). The Killoren arrangement should make for a nice baseline, and we can work out an exact arrangement from there. I'd like to get at least one rehearsal on the board to sort this out.

Father Charlie is on vacation beginning Thursday, 7/28, and won't be back until Saturday, 8/6. I'll make it a point to check in with the visiting priest before Mass this weekend to make sure we're on the same page.

Eva is out this week, and possibly next week.

Ginny is out this week.

Tom is out through the end of this month.
