Songs & Updates for Saturday, June 24, 2017

This Saturday is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Thanks to all who were able to be at Mass last week! We had a large group of singers to offset a few instrumentalists being out.

A reminder that we're switching back to Mass of Creation this week. Booklets are in the cabinet. This setting is also included in the new Gather, beginning on page #193. We'll be using Acclamation 'A' (We Proclaim Your Death). Let's plan to review all of the parts before Mass, especially for the benefit of those who haven't done this setting before.

Tom and I have been meeting around 4 PM to give us some extra time to look at the music -- feel free to join us. An hour-and-a-half rehearsal seems to be a nice happy medium between 'almost too short' (one hour) and 'sometimes too long' (two hours). If you have specific questions or songs you'd like to go over, this would be a good time to do it.

Just like our Communion song from last week, Be Not Afraid is a tune I wouldn't normally pick. The song is pretty and fits nicely with the readings, but it's difficult to keep together. We may need to spend some extra time nailing down the verses.

I'm hoping to pick the music for July in the next week or so. Jim will be returning, so our guitar section will be whole again. I'd also like to experiment with assigning cantors (and possibly backups) every week for the Psalm and Alleluia. This is really something that needs to be done in advance, and would make things a lot easier from a planning standpoint. More on this later.
