Special thanks to Tom and Joe for being our sole instrumentalists last Saturday. Despite the circumstances, things went pretty well. Jim is returning this week, so our guitar section will be 'whole' again :-)
Our music for July (here) has been approved with no changes. Also, after sorting out everyone's schedules, our first-ever cantor schedule is ready to go (here). Presuming this works well, I'd like to continue doing it on a monthly basis.
Moving forward, we may want to consider doing certain songs with guitar-only or piano-only accompaniment (plus percussion and melodics, of course). Two good examples this week are Come to the Lord and Lord, Every Nation. We're finding that some of these instrumental parts don't blend well (especially if we throw in some 'creative liberties'), so doing this as needed would help to address the issue. This may also tie into Jim's long-held idea of having different groups of instrumentalists alternate Masses, giving everyone some schedule flexibility. Just something to think about, especially as things normalize post-Summer.
For those of you who will be singing the Communion Meditation, Come to Me, O Weary Traveler, please take some time to look at your voice parts (materials sent out by email). I'll be at the Church by 4 PM if there's anything anyone would like to go over. Unfortunately, we can't spend too much time on this, but if everyone feels reasonably confident with their parts, it should be fine. If there are problems, we can always drop this and revisit it later.
