Last week, things went very well despite concerns over the entire guitar section being out. It ended up that it wasn't necessary for Father to lead music, since we had more than enough singers and two melodic instruments. I was a bit concerned that the music would feel too 'empty' without guitar, but the simplicity of it all worked quite well. Huge thanks to all who were able to be there, especially my partner-in-crime Maggie. I didn't realize sax and violin sounded so good together, and enjoyed the chance to play director for the night :-)
The sound system appears to be (more-or-less) working with a restored 5:30 sound profile, but several of the mics were set at too low of a volume level to be usable. Only one of the guitar mics was good enough for announcing songs, cantoring, etc..
This week is Pentecost -- don't forget to wear red.
This week is also Time and Talent. I put in a plug for the Choir at the end of mass last weekend, but didn't get any takers. It may be a good idea to try again this week.
Finally, below are relevant notes from the Pentecost/Parish Picnic planning meeting, courtesy of Barb (since I wasn't able to be there):
- Possible song selections for Pentecost: GC 462 - Spirit Blowing Through Creation, GC 463 - Veni Sancte Spiritus and GC 101 - Lord, Send Out Your Spirit (Psalm 104).
- We'll continue to use Mass of Remembrance, switching back to Mass of Creation after the weekend of Corpus Christi (which falls on June 21).
- There will be special music for masses the weekend of the Parish Picnic. A possible song choice includes 'Sing a New Church'.
- There will also be a Blessing Service for the new building with the Bishop that Sunday (?) afternoon. Father will be writing the program for this and will then inform the Choirs. Folks from all three groups are encouraged to participate.
UPDATE: since I haven't heard otherwise, I'm assuming this week's program is as originally planned. Note the use of the Pentecost Sequence, though I'm not sure if it will be before or after the Alleluia (both placements are technically correct). See below:
UPDATE 2: a few changes were made to our program that I wasn't aware of until mass. There was no Pentecost Sequence, and the Gloria was not listed (but Father did it anyway). 'I Have Been Anointed' was also nixed since we haven't had a chance to work it for a few weeks.
