Welcome to the homepage for the 5:30 Music Ministry!
We are an all-volunteer ensemble that provides music for the Saturday 5:30 PM Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. One of three groups that covers the weekend Masses, our focus is on a contemporary repertoire.
Since the Parish was founded in 1989, our group has taken on many forms. Originally guitar-based, we've grown to include a full compliment of other instruments, while also giving musicians of all skill levels the opportunity to cantor/solo and practice harmony. Many talented musicians and leaders have come and gone, but our goals haven't changed: lead the people in song, make the best quality music possible and have fun doing it.
Besides Saturday Mass, we typically cover liturgies on Christmas Eve, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Some of our musicians also help out as needed on Sunday mornings and for other special Masses and Services. Outside of Good Shepherd, many are involved in other local bands, choirs and ensembles.
Our current group includes guitar, bass, piano, violin, percussion and voices, with many instrumentalists doubling roles as needed.
Regular rehearsal is held the hour before Mass on Saturday afternoons in the Worship Space. Rehearsals to focus on specific songs and/or to prepare for special events are scheduled as needed (typically Wednesday or Friday evenings).
If you're searching for an informal group to practice your skills and grow as a musician, come see us after Mass. No auditions required!
