This Saturday is the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Thanks to everyone who was able to be at Mass last week! We had a visiting priest and the Liturgy was celebrated in the Parish Hall due to the Great Worship Space Flood of last Thursday/Friday. The setup is a bit different than our usual Easter/Christmas configuration, but it still did the job nicely (huge thanks to the staff for getting this up and running so quickly on Friday!). Like others have mentioned, despite the microphone challenges, it was a refreshing change in pace and a good warm-up for Christmas Eve :-)
The Hall will be our home for at least a few weeks until things dry out in the Worship Space, so let's plan to meet there for regular 4:30 practice. Again, instrumentalists, feel free to bring your own music stands and other equipment as needed.
Also, please welcome Frances to our group! Frances is new to the area and approached us before Mass about singing and/or playing flute. It's great to have her onboard!
Another interesting tidbit: Ginny and I spoke with a gentleman who, about 15 years ago, was involved with music at Saturday Mass. He hasn't been with the Parish for quite a while and was visiting last week. He was known for singing the Spanish text on a number of songs.
For our Gathering Song, 'Glory and Praise', let's plan to do the first three verses only. The forth verse has a different feel than the others and doesn't really blend well.
We haven't done 'Come to the Water' in a while; in fact, I think we've only used it once before. I'm thinking taking this tune at a faster, more upbeat tempo is the way to go. We experimented with this approach last time with Jonathan -- this will give the song some energy and keep it from dragging.
'Let the River Flow' is another song we haven't done in a while. Please look it over if unfamiliar. Since the song only has one refrain and verse, we can more-or-less repeat it as many (or as few) times as needed.
Lastly, I hate to be the bearer of sad news, but for those who didn't hear, Chip's wife Kay passed away over the weekend. Most of you will recall that Chip served as our bass player for a time; Kay also sang with us, and was suffering from a degenerative disease known as ALS. I didn't have the chance to know Kay well, but she was such a sweet lady and I enjoyed the opportunities I had to chat with her. Please keep Chip and his family in your thoughts and prayers this week.
A funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd on Friday, 9/16, at 10 AM. I know this is very short notice, but if anyone is available to sing and/or play, Chip, Barry and possibly Jeff (Barb's husband) are handling the music -- I'm not sure if I can make this myself, but feel free to join them. I'll pass along further details as they become available.
