This Saturday is the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
We had another fairly solid Mass last week. Thanks to all who were able to attend! There were a few minor issues, but nothing too serious. Mass of Creation seems to be in a pretty good place, especially considering we did it 'cold'.
Our music for July has been sent to the Office for approval. Will let you know of any changes to this week's program.
I mentioned last week about putting together a cantor rotation for Psalms and the Alleluia. Those of you who regularly cantor should see an email on this in the next day or so.
I believe we've only ever done the Psalm, For Ever I Will Sing, once before. Unless someone else is interested, I'll plan to cantor. If you don't know it, please take a few minutes to look this over.
The same goes for our Communion song, Taste and See. We used this once before as a monthly Communion song, but it's been a while. Keep in mind that despite the 'feel' of the music, both the refrain and verses need to be done in 4/4 time (not 3/4).
A reminder that we typically do The Servant Song a capella, building it up with harmony and instrumental parts in the second half.
Since the 4th of July is next Tuesday, I'd like to do a patriotic song after Mass. As you know, Father generally isn't a fan of patriotic music during the Liturgy, but afterward usually is fine. A pretty standard arrangement of America the Beautiful is in the book, so let's go with that. If we don't have enough singers, we always have the option of dropping this or doing it as an instrumental.
Looking ahead, I have GC3 #727, Come to Me, O Weary Traveler (here) listed as a Communion Meditation on 07/08. When Jonathan was still with us, we did this tune in a lovely little choral arrangement. It's been on my list of songs to bring back for a while, and this seems like a good opportunity. I'll be reaching out to some folks this week about singing this in three or four parts.
Maggie and Eva are out this week.
UPDATE: 06/28: Tim will also be out this week.
If I don't see you, happy Independence Day!
