Songs & Updates for Saturday, August 30, 2014

This Saturday is the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, and also a Baptism.
We were pretty light on people last week, but still managed to pull everything off. There were a few changes to the program that I wasn't aware of, but nothing that caused any problems.

Jonathan, Barry, Maggie and I stuck around after mass to practice until about 7:30 PM.

We started work on a new, slight rearrangement of 'We Are One Body', which is our common Communion song for the next several weeks. To keep in line with Father's request that we not deviate too much from the book (so the congregation can still follow along), we opted to more-or-less 'follow the ink' and not the old t4C arrangement.

We increased the tempo, added in an extended instrumental intro/pre-meditation (to cover going up to receive) and developed several voice parts. We'll continue to build on this in the weeks to come, hopefully to the point of having a solid arrangement we can re-use in the future.

We also worked on 'Sing Hey for the Carpenter', a vaguely familiar but mostly new piece for us that will be our Gathering & Closing song this week. This is a fairly fast, waltz-like tune with several phrases that repeat throughout. Please be sure to review it if unfamiliar so we don't have to spend too much time learning it before mass.

We also briefly went over the Psalm, 'My Soul is Thirsting'.

Lastly, some of you are already aware of this, but Jonathan has asked that I assist with the leadership/day-to-day operations of running rehearsals and masses (beyond the administrative aspects that I'm handling now). We took a few baby steps into this last weekend.

This will give Jonathan a chance to focus more on instrumentation and other projects such as the House Band. This will also allow us to better balance out the workload and to put into affect some of the other proposals that we've been discussing over the past several weeks.

Father Charlie is on vacation this week.

There will be practice after mass from 7-8 PM.
