Songs & Updates for Saturday, November 14, 2015

This Saturday is the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
I was out last week due to a concert, so I don't have too many updates. Jim had a change in plans and reports that "[Saturday] night went very well. Jon, Maggie, Joe and I were there with a bunch of singers".

If anyone is interested in singing the Psalm, 'If Today', let me know. We'll be using this psalm both this week and next.

Our Offertory song is new in title and lyrics only. I had selected 'The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns', but but Father nixed that since it's an Advent hymn. 'O Holy City, Seen of John' uses the same tune ('Morning Song') as 'King', but repeats the last phrase twice and has different lyrics. Please look over the melody and lyrics before the weekend (will upload sheet music/audio for this later today).

I'd like to stick around after Mass this week to start reviewing Mass of Joy & Peace, which we'll start using at the beginning of Advent. We may also want to start looking at music for Christmas. If enough of us are available, I'd be happy to pay for a pizza or two for dinner. Please let me know if you can stick around!

UPDATE (11/10): below are the music highlights from the Advent Planning Meeting:
  • Our Focus Hymn for the season will be SS #105, 'Christ Be Our Light', which will be used for Communion. All other music (including the Psalm) will be at our discretion.
  • For Mass of Joy & Peace, we'll use Acclamation B: 'When We Eat This Bread'.
  • Father suggested the idea of playing the piece 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' instrumentally during some of the Advent Masses, but the details haven't been finalized yet. This will be in connection with our Advent Theme, 'Build a Bridge'.

UPDATE (11/13): just a reminder that if you haven't already, please let me know if you're able to stick around after Mass tomorrow. I need to finalize a rehearsal plan and figure out if there will be enough of us to make it worth ordering pizza.
