Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 28, 2016

This Saturday is the Feast of the Body & Blood of Christ.
As many of you know, Jim, Tom, Maggie and Jonathan are all unavailable this week. Rather than scrambling to find instrument coverage, I'd like to do Mass a capella instead.

The plan is to more-or-less do the songs as written, but cut out intros and interludes as needed (and no key change on the Psalm :-). I have a few thoughts on how to fill the gaps left by the instruments (for example, using percussion and singing some parts on 'ooo'), but more on that later this week.

In order to make this all work, I'm looking for a few volunteers to 1) make announcements, 2) lead the singing from the guitar mics, 3) play percussion (probably tambourine), and 4) cantor for the Psalm. If you'd be interested in doing any of these, let me know ASAP.

UPDATE: 5/24: Ginny will handle announcements and is willing to cantor the Psalm if no one else is interested, but would like someone to sing it with her.

Also, it at all possible, please plan to arrive at 4:30 PM for practice, as we have quite a bit to go over in a short space of time. Since singers will make up the entirety of our group, everyone needs to be on the same page. If you're not able to be there, please give me a heads up so I have some idea of our numbers.

Lastly, just as a reminder, be sure to watch me and listen to each other for tempos and cues. The reason I mention this is last week, we definitely weren't together on several songs, and tempos were all over the place. This is something we really need to be careful of, especially this week. If there's anything I can do to give more clear direction, I'm always open to suggestions :-).

Thanks as always for all your efforts, and I'm looking forward to giving this a try. If it ends up working well, we may want to do this again in the future, especially going into the summer where coverage issues are bound to pop up.
