This Saturday is The Epiphany of the Lord.
Wednesday is the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses are being held Tuesday night at 5:30 PM and Wednesday morning at 9 AM. I believe Barb's group is covering the former while Anne's choir is covering the ladder (if anyone wants to join them).
Jim took care of music selection for this week and last as a stopgap measure over the holidays, but we still need someone to take on the remainder of January (unless, Jim, you'd like to handle that as well?).
As Jim already mentioned, the closing song is a new one -- don't forget to look it over if you're unfamiliar with it.
Once again, there will not be practice after mass since many will be out for New Year's (Karina and I will be 'among the missing').
Here are the songs for Saturday:
Gathering:
GC 373 - We Three Kings of Orient Are
Gloria:
Mass of Joy & Peace
Psalm:
SS 70 - Lord, Every Nation (Psalm 72)
Alleluia:
Mass of Joy & Peace
Offertory:
GC 380 - What Child is This
Meditation (Jim):
'Christmas Bells'
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet, the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men
I thought how, as the day had come
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men
And in despair, I bowed my head
"There is no peace on earth," I said
For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men
Then pealed the bells, more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth he sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men.
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet, the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men
Peace on earth, good will to men.
Communion:
GC 377 - The First Nowell
Closing:
GC 376 - Songs of Thankfulness and Praise
Thank you all for another great year of music! Our group has gone through plenty of changes in the past 12 months (including losing some good people while gaining a few others), and I think has grown quite a bit as an ensemble. I look forward to seeing what the new year holds and more fun on Saturday nights :-)
