Songs & Updates for Saturday, January 14, 2017

This Saturday is the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Nice job last week! We had another strong night, with most everything going smoothly. No more Christmas songs for a while, though :-(

I also wanted to put out a special thanks to Lise for singing with us over the past year! Lise is our youngest member, and joined us in January, 2016. Lise's mom is taking a job out-of-state, and this was her last week singing with us.

I've started preliminary planning for the Lent/Easter season. Tentative dates are up on the group calendar. I'm assuming that we'll be covering an afternoon Good Friday Service and morning Easter Sunday Mass as usual. Father Charlie scheduled a planning meeting for Wednesday, 01/18, so will let you know what shakes out.

The new repertoire section of the website should (hopefully) be live by end-of-week. This will replace most of the current repertoire sections with one combined page. If you're looking for materials, you may want to check there first (I'll keep it updated on a weekly basis).

The Penitential Rite/Gloria transition was definitely better last week. For the instrumentalists, working out of Gather rather than the Mass Setting booklet seemed to help. I'm not sure this makes a huge difference for the singers (I saw folks doing both), but if you're on harmony, you may want to stick with the booklet since it's a bit more complete.

The Psalm, Here I Am, is one we haven't done in a few years. If you're not familiar with the tune, please look at it before the weekend (a few of us reviewed it after Mass last week). I'm planning to cantor unless someone else would be interested. The song is written in four parts, so a couple of voices on the other lines would be great.

Tim will be joining us on piano this week. If you haven't met Tim yet, please take a minute to introduce yourself. We're still working out the logistics, but with two pianists onboard, that should give us more flexibility for instrument coverage.
