Songs & Updates for Saturday, December 16, 2017

This Saturday is the 3rd Sunday of Advent.
Thanks for bearing with my concert schedule last week! It was a fun performance, and coming to Mass in tux-like attire is always interesting :-)

We were light on musicians and rehearsal was a bit rushed (apologies for not quite having it together), but there weren't any major issues.

The Advent Reconciliation Service is being held this evening, 12/12, at 7 PM. Barb's group is covering. Feel free to come help sing. Recorded music will be used during confessions; only the Gathering, Psalm and Closing song will be done 'live' (details here).

Our Christmas Program (here) should be finalized this week. Note that Father would like to use a new Gathering song throughout the Christmas season (beginning Christmas Eve): GC3 #434 - Awake! Awake, and Greet the New Morn. Please take a look at this (here) -- we'll also go through it at dress rehearsal on 12/22. Stay tuned for the final plan and any last-minute details.

For those who asked about the burned out light directly above the choir section, I'm looking into this and will get back to you as soon as I can. I know it's making it difficult to see books, etc..

I spoke with Father about the Penitential Rite. Last week, he opted to use a spoken version rather than the one in Joy & Peace (but didn't tell us ahead of time). It sounds like Father will decide which way to go depending on the readings; will make it a point to check with him before Mass this Saturday.

Please take a look at the Psalm, Holy is Your Name, if you haven't already. This song has quite a few verses and doesn't follow the usual format (ie the verses are sung before the refrain). I'm planning to cover it unless anyone else is interested.

Finally, let's spend some extra time working on Comfort, Comfort this Saturday. It seemed like not too many people in the congregation were familiar with it, and there were only a few of us available to lead the singing. The song also lacks meter and has pretty minimal accompaniment, so voices will need to take point.

Joe and Jim are out (Group Therapy gig).
