Songs & Updates for Sunday, April 5, 2015

This is another special post for Easter Sunday mass.
Huge thanks to those of you (and the two singers from 9 AM) who where able to make the Good Friday liturgy -- there where some minor issues here and there, but it overall went quite well.

The only note Father Charlie had for us was to minimize, as much as possible, the 'dead air' between preparing to start a song and actually starting it. This was primarily my fault for being overly-cautious, but it's probably something we should work on going forward.

Just a reminder that we're covering the 9 AM Easter Sunday mass in the Parish Hall with Father Charlie. I'd like to meet at 8 AM to set up and spot-check songs. We have two preludes on the board, so it would be good to begin those no later than 8:50 AM.

Also, at our rehearsal on Wednesday, I borrowed both music stands and what songbooks I could from the Church. If you have your own equipment/materials, though, please do bring them along so we don't run short on anything.

We'll be reintroducing the Gloria and regular Gospel Acclamation from Mass of Remembrance.

If anyone would be interested in cantoring the Psalm, 'This is the Day', or the Alleluia, please let me know.

Probably our biggest piece of the morning will be 'Resucitó'. This song has strong Spanish influences, so the style is definitely a bit different than we're used to. I definitely want to run this one before mass.

The recording below was pieced together from several runs during Wednesday's rehearsal -- it's a little rough but will hopefully give you an idea of what we're aiming for.

We opted for a somewhat slower tempo, with Cindy heading up the song on piano, Chip on bass and Tom adding in some Spanish-style guitar doodles. If you haven't had a chance to look this over yet, please do so before Sunday. It'll also be used at Easter Vigil and is our Easter Focus song for the next six weeks, so we'll have plenty of time to clean it up.

There are several other songs we didn't get to on Wednesday, namely the preludes, 'Come to the Water',  'Whom Do You Seek', 'He is Exalted' and 'This is the Day'. It would be great to spot-check these before mass so we're all on the same page.

Jim is out this week.
