Songs & Updates for Saturday, September 9, 2017

This Saturday is the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Nice job last week! We had a solid Mass with no issues. With a few tweaks to the arrangement, Touch the Earth Lightly went very well. We added an extra bar after each verse, and repeated the last line as an interlude. I don't think this will cause us any problems for the next several weeks.

Due to the larger-than-usual crowd, we also made it all the way through I Will Choose Christ for Communion, so Eva and Jim did a lovely rendition of How Beautiful (here) to fill the rest of the time. Moving forward, we should probably have a second song in mind just for these types of occasions.

There's a wedding scheduled for 2:30 PM in the Church. I'm not expecting any delays, but just something to be aware of. The same goes for Mass on 09/23.

For the Psalm, Jim is cantoring, but I'd also like to have a few folks at the mics to sing the lower harmony lines (here and here).

Our Communion song is Remember Your Love -- let's use our standard arrangement, but be careful not to start it too fast. We'll have plenty of time to build it up.

Another piano update: it's looking like Bev's start date will be 09/16 [correction: early October]. We have a meeting scheduled for this evening (Tuesday) to discuss music and logistics.

I also received a special request from Jonathan for Mass on 09/16. A good friend of his has a prayer intention on the board for that week, and asked if we could insert Amazing Grace into the program somewhere. Rather than bumping one of the regular songs, I'm checking to see whether this could be done as a special selection right before Closing (or perhaps as a prelude). Will let you know what we end up with.

Finally, stay tuned for an email on scheduling an after-Mass dinner. There seemed to be interest when we touched on this a few weeks ago. At this point, I'm looking at 09/16, 09/23 or 09/30.
